Friendship Primary School Recovery Strengthened Through BBP and ANDRITZ Partnership

Following Hurricane Melissa in October 2025, Bamboo Bioproducts committed to supporting recovery across the Westmoreland communities we call home. After an initial phase of emergency relief focused on staff welfare, food support, and community assistance, our attention turned to longer-term recovery, with education infrastructure as a clear priority.
Friendship Primary School was identified as a school where BBP could make a direct and lasting difference, and where support could be put to work quickly for the families and students in the surrounding community.
With generous support from our partner ANDRITZ, BBP provided Friendship Primary School with a generator to strengthen the school's operational resilience and ensure students could return to a stable learning environment.

On 28 April 2026, BBP Local Director Saffrey Brown visited the school alongside Kari Tuominen, President & CEO of Andritz Oy, and Principal Cheddy Chisholm. The visit marked the handover of the generator, included a short tour of the school, and allowed both teams to see the work first-hand and thank those involved.
This reflects BBP's long-term approach to community investment in Jamaica: identifying where resources can be deployed with purpose, working alongside partners, and building outcomes that endure beyond the immediate moment.

We are grateful to ANDRITZ for their partnership and contribution to this effort. Friendship Primary School and its students are part of our local community, which we are committed to for the long term.
This update forms part of BBP's ongoing commitment to the communities of Westmoreland. For more background, read our earlier post: Reflections on Hurricane Melissa.
